Sadowski Update 1/23

Yesterday the kids were rewarded for all their box tops with a chocolate fondue!  They consumed a TON of chocolate, and other goodies that they dunked in the chocolate.... it think it's safe to say that they all had their fill!

Thank you so much parents for all the box tops!  As of right now we're in the lead again with the number of box tops... Please keep them coming!  Its amazing how much money those little buggers bring in and these days schools need that money more than ever. Your clipping efforts are very much appreciated.

Coke rewards !!!  Holy cow parents! You are AMAZING!!!!!  With the first two $20.00 gift cards ($40.00) and a card I got for christmas I was able to buy two hardcover "diary of a wimpy kid" books, 3 more percy jackson books. and the entire Divergent series.  I HAVE now read the first two books in this series and they amazing and hard to put down.. however, due to a couple of scenes where the main characters are intensely kissing,  I'm going to have to insist that like the Twilight series and the Hunger Games, that a parent note be written giving your student permission to read these books.

We're currently building up points for our next two gift cards... I have two accounts that I enter points in ... so the more codes we have the faster we can get more than one card! The kids already have a list going as to what they want the next time I go buy books.

Lola's new name is now Leo.  That was the most voted on name that is the closest to her old name.

Science Test

All 5th grade students have a  test over the Forces and Motion unit this Thursday, January 12th.
We have been been talking about the test and reviewing for this test since last week. They also knew that there was a test coming up before Break.
Students have been given a study sheet that lets them know what is on the test. Answers can be found in their orange science books as well as on all of their returned warm up sheets.
Test will be multiple choice with two essay questions and will cover the following:
Balanced and unbalanced forces
Contact and non contact forces
How forces acting on an object cause it to be unbalanced or balanced
Calculating the speed of an object using the formula distance divided by time.
Averaging numbers to get an average time or speed
What a point of reference is
What a force is
How you can tell if an object has moved (seeing it doesn't count!)
The two forces that can slow down a moving object ( Gravity and friction)
That friction is a contact force and that gravity, magnetism and electrical fields are non contact forces
The differences between linear and non linear motion

Welcome to 2014!

Wow!  What a LOOOOONG break!  Looking at some of your kiddos this morning I'd swear that many of them have grown in the past three weeks!

Couple of things....

First... the spelling list that we HAD been studying 3 weeks ago that we were supposed to test on that Friday 3 weeks ago?  Yeah... I think at this point it would be cruel and unusual punishment to try to test them on something THAT long ago. So! Next week we'll start with Lesson 15 and go from there.

Dibels testing is next week. This is the test where they read as many words per minute out loud as they can, and then they have to recall at least 3 important facts and details in order.

Please practice having your student read a short article to you (for exactly one minute) and then have them "retell" the passage to you. They should always start off with  "This story/article is about..."  Facts need to be in order (beginning/ middle / end) or they will lose points.  The retell (in my opinion) is more important than how many words they can read aloud.

Copy paper supplies are running seriously short. In fact, the school is down to the last 3 cases of paper ... which basically means that each teacher now has only two packs of paper to last them the rest of the year. ( Hilarious I know...!)  I know budgets are tight right now due to the fact that we all have holiday bills to pay.... but if you happen to win the lottery (even those scratch offs can pay off!) please pick up some printer paper for our room and school. All donations of paper will be greatly appreciated!

The ski trip is still scheduled for January 17th.. We just need to pray for weather ABOVE 0 degrees! I got a couple of forms today... but I still have a  few that need to come in. If you need more forms, let me know and I can either email them to you or send home a hard copy.
Email me at tsadowski@vicksburgschools.org  or text me at 269-501-3969.

And finally.. keep those box tops and coke bottle rewards caps coming!  I was able to get another $20.00 Barnes and Noble gift card over break with reward points.... The kids have been asking for the "Divergent" series.. so I think that one is next on the list.
Hope you all had a great break!
