Classroom update 4/15

Spring pictures are tomorrow. The kids brought home a packet about the pictures before spring break. If I remember correctly, this is the time that they take everyone's picture and send them all home. If you dont want them, you send them back to me and I send them back to the picture company. If you know already that you don't want these pictures just zip me an email and I'll save us both some time and just keep them to return immediately.

Classroom Crabs/Frogs

I let the kids know yesterday during science class that we would be getting four hermit crabs and four frogs in the next week for our Systems and Survival Science unit, and that they would need homes after we finish our study of them within their habitat in June. Notes had to be brought to me asap this morning and animals were claimed in order of the notes I received. I won't list the names here, as they kids all know if they got one or not, so ask them if you want to know if you are to expect a "new arrival" the first week of June.

The following just came to us via the superintendent. As this is an "official" email, I would imagine that you have already or will receive this email.

STATE REDUCES NUMBER OF DAYS TO BE MADE UP

Governor Snyder recently signed legislation which reduced the minimum number of days of instruction in Michigan schools this year due to the severe winter weather. For Vicksburg it reduces the number of make-up days by two. Consequently, the school year will be extended by two days, not four, as previously announced.

As of this date, therefore, the calendar will be changed as follows:

Friday, June 6, 2014, will be a full day of school for students and staff.

Monday, June 9, 2014, will also be a full day for students and staff.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014, will be a half day for students and a full day for staff.

Should future school cancellations require additional days of school, we will add days as necessary. Any added days will follow the same format, with the last day of school being a half day for students.

Remaining owl boxes have been moved to the science lab for spring break.

Boxes need to be picked up by 4/18. Please pick them up from the science lab... I can lend my rolling chair to anyone who needs to carry out one of the bigger ones.

If you don't WANT your box, let me know... there are a few teachers that are interested in buying some for their own property if any kids are interested in selling them. I was thinking $50 or $60 each for the bigger ones and $30 for the smaller ones. The money would of course go to the kids that made them.

Any boxes left after the pick up date that I have not heard from or that have not been collected or claimed will be sold and the proceeds will go to Sunset Lake.

The boxes and the owl call sheets the kids did were outstanding! Thank you parents for all the time (and money!) that went into some of these fantastic projects! This is the first year I have done this.... and I've had so many lower elementary parents ask me if I'm going to continue this in years to come as they now want to build a box or go owl call hunting with their child!

Science tests.... I had quite a few kids ask me to let them know what they got on their tests as soon as I have them corrected... they don't want to wait until after break! (so funny!) If you would like an email letting you know how your child did, email me and I'll reply back with their score. I should have all of them graded by tomorrow.

Thanks and have a great break!
